U.S. IMMIGRANT VISA PHOTO
DS-260 applicants: bring two printed photos to the interview
Photos are processed in your browser. They are never uploaded to any server.
The DS-260 photo step is not the same as a DS-160 upload. The Department of State says immigrant visa applicants must bring two identical photos to the interview, printed on photo-quality paper at 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm).
What the official rule says
According to the Department of State photo requirements, people applying for an immigrant visa using Form DS-260 must provide:
- Two identical photos
- Photo-quality paper
- 2 × 2 inches (51 × 51 mm)
These are printed photos for the interview. Do not assume that a digital upload prepared for a different form replaces them. Some posts may give additional instructions, so read the appointment guidance for the embassy or consulate handling the case.
Check the print, not only the JPG
- Make two prints from the same final image.
- Measure each finished photo: it should be 2 × 2 inches.
- Use photo-quality paper.
- Check that both copies match and that the face is sharp, centered and unobstructed.
- Pack them with the other interview documents and follow any local post instructions.
A file can be 600 × 600 pixels and still print at the wrong physical size if the print service scales it. For a 2 × 2 inch print at 300 pixels per inch, the image is 600 × 600 pixels at actual size. Tell the printer not to “fit” or enlarge the sheet, then measure the result with a ruler.
Do not confuse DS-260 with DV entry
The Department’s photo page separately states that online Diversity Visa entrants upload a 600 × 600 JPEG of no more than 240 kB. Selectees later bring two printed 2 × 2 inch photos to their interview. Same print dimensions, different steps.
Are your instructions asking for a photo at the interview? Use the local embassy or consulate checklist as the final word. Photo handling can differ by post and case.
